How Long Does CBD Stay in Your System?

CBD oil is legal in nearly every state. Does CBD oil get you high? No, it does not get someone high. However, tests for THC, the one psychoactive component out of sixty non-psychoactive, are more sophisticated in tracking drug usage. The tests have evolved to detect even the smallest amounts of THC.

But, how will that affect someone who uses the natural oil in good faith? It is more complicated than a simple answer.

Why Does CBD Oil Test Positive for THC?

Legally, CBD oil can only contain 0.3% or less of THC. The federal regulation applies to any consumer product made of hemp. But, because all natural CBD oils on the market contain trace amounts of THC,  failing a drug screen for THC metabolites is possible.

No actual CBD hemp oil drug test exists. However, in full transparency, the trace amounts of the psychoactive compound THC in the natural oil could throw a false positive. The fact it contains THC at all leads people to ask, “Does CBD oil get you high, then?” The answer is still no. The amount of THC that is federally legal will not produce a high. However, in states where medicinal marijuana is legal, marijuana-derived CBD oil is also legal. Users in states where hemp-derived CBD is legal, but not marijuana-derived, should take special care when buying CBD oil online.

Is CBD Oil Safe to Use?

CBD oil side effects are next to zero. It is known for its safe usage and lack of adverse effects. CBD oil is all natural and extracted from the seed and stalks of hemp.

It always is best practice to ensure the CBD oil used has no added additives. Any CBD oil side effects might be related to an added ingredient.  Ideally, the CBD oil is well tested for THC content and safe before the release on the market. Trained technicians test for contamination or degradation in the natural oil byproduct to ensure consumers are safe in their use of CBD oil.

Also, keep in mind that the THC metabolites are what causes a false positive on drug tests, not the CBD itself.  A CBD hemp oil drug test does not exist because it is legal to make and purchase in all fifty states.

How Long Will Trace Amounts Remain in the System?

Whether or not an upcoming drug test is on the horizon, it is best to know how long CBD oil components stay in the body. The oil is 100% legal but even abstaining from using CBD oil for two weeks has garnered a false positive in some cases.

According to most research, orally ingested CBD oil stays in the system for approximately 1-2 days. However, it is not always that cut and dry.  Other variables may affect the half-life of CBD oil in the body.

The calculation of 1-2 days does not take into account the frequency of oil use, the metabolism of individuals using the oil, their sex, age, or weight.  When factoring in the unknown, orally administered CBD oil remains in the system at the minimum of 4 days and a maximum of 25 days. The difference is vast, but using personal experiences and research the estimations are not exact.

Safety and purity is a primary concern for any supplier of CBD oil. The consumer comes first and having all the information possible is a priority.
